Description

The purpose of the project is to ensure a continuous, adequate supply of safe drinking water throughout the year for a large majority of the town’s population as well as the population of the villages along the water transmission line from the Hesko spring to the town, adequate sewage disposal within the town and treatment of the sewage to an environmentally harmless degree.

This will contribute to a reduction of the environmental pollution in the region.

The project components carried out by a Joint Venture led by Dorsch Consult Wasser und Umwelt, are:

A. Water Supply

  • Improvement and extension of Hesko Spring
  • Rehabilitation of HESKO main transmission line (DN 800)
  • Replacement of fittings (including air relief valves, discharge valves on the transmission line)
  • Rehabilitation of 3 water storage tanks and construction of 2 new reservoirs with a capacity of 500 m3 and 4,000 m3
  • Procurement and laying of 1200 m connection pipes (DN 250-400) to the new water storage tanks
  • Rehabilitation of 27,500 m of distribution network in parallel with the water loss reduction programme
  • Replacement of 2,500 house connections and water meters

B. Sewerage and Stormwater

  • Construction of 3 wastewater pumping stations and laying of rising mains
  • Rehabilitation/disconnection/replacement of 6,500 m of sewerage and stormwater mains (DN 400 – 1600) including manholes and street drains
  • Rehabilitation/disconnection/replacement of 3,500 m of secondary sewerage and stormwater pipes (DN 300 – 400) including manholes and streets drains
  • Rehabilitation/disconnection/replacement of approximately 500 wrong sewer connections to stormwater sewers including manholes
  • Construction of 3 stormwater overflows including a storage basin

C. Wastewater Treatment Plant

  • Construction of a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 160,000 PE, comprising a pond system to be extended in future to tertiary treatment for nitrogen and phosphorus removal
  • The construction is to be tendered out in a functional tendering procedure

D. Power Generation

  • Investigation of the feasibility of power generation using the treatment plant effluent (350 l/s)
