Description

The current lack of hygienically safe potable water and large-scale absence of sanitary facilities in the country represents a major hindrance in the social and economic development, with particular reference to the fight against poverty.

The provision of facilities to offset these deficits in the urban environment represents the primary objective of the German Government’s contribution to this nationwide programme of urban and rural water development.

Specifically, this is to be achieved by hands-on support to the newly-founded SONEB in the provision of water services to its clients.

The project is being carried out mainly by an expatriate team (comprising German, French and Algerian staff totalling 54 man-months), assisted by short-term local inputs from the Benin joint venture partner (5 MM).
