Description

On 17.08.99 a serious earthquake occurred in the north-west part of Turkey, causing loss of life and extensive physical damage.

In response to this the World Bank agreed to provide the Government of Turkey with a loan for the „Marmara Earthquake Emergency Reconstruction“ (MEER) project.

Within the scope of this project Dorsch Consult – as lead firm in joint venture with a local partner - was retained to provide consulting services for the supervision of the construction of a total of:

4,500 apartment units in 3 towns:

  • 3,000 in Izmit (Centre),
  • 1,000 in Körfez and
  • 500 in Gebze.

In addition to the reconstruction of housing units and on-site infrastructure the contract embraces the provision of primary schools, health posts and off-site infrastructure.

The overall works have been divided into 9 construction packages.
