Description

The outer appearance of this higher technical college for electrical and mechanical engineering was awarded first prize in an architects competition. The major feature being the sweeping facade of the multistoried development link construction which follows the slope. This not only provides a connection between the single-storey workshop buildings of steel construction and the teaching, administration and office tracts on the south side, but also serves as a facility for breaks and multi-purpose hall for accommodating lecture halls and it also houses the cafeteria. The present ground plan concept permits the facilities to be extended in several sections.

The visible surfaces are, on the one hand, of concrete block masonry with a colour accent, on the other hand they have a facade facing on corrugated aluminum basis to meet the high technical standard of the building. The varying ground conditions in the area of the building required a foundation for the link construction on reinforced concrete piles, whereas the peripherally arranged buildings could be founded on individual or continuous footing.

The building of the higher technical college is fitted with top-class technology and accommodates, in addition to numerous laboratories, computer rooms, a soundproof machine test rig and Faraday cage.
